I saw a flock of bright yellow small birds this morning. At first I thought a slew of monarch butterflies were taking off from the ground, then I noticed they were birds! They flap their wings in a fashion similar to a butterfly. The birds back was a tropical looking bright yellow that stopped in a V shape then black tail. The yellow abruptly stopped at the body and the wing was solid black as well. the head was yellow and I did not get a look at the underbelly. If anyone can help me, I have never seen this bird in my area and it is migrating alongside a flock of Canadian Geese. It has a chirping sound that fits the size. I first thought it was a finch but it is larger than a finch and smaller than a robin. (Could be spring juveniles) There was another color bird with way more black and less yellow though only a few that I assume these were male and female of the same bird. The yellow on this bird was a stripe down a black back and a slight touch of color elsewhere.)They were traveling in an approximate group of 60.
